Ulinzi signs their first player as KPL season 2019-20 draws nigh

Kenya Premier League side Ulinzi Stars have confirmed the signing of the first player this transfer as they prepare for the season 2019-20.

Head coach Benjamin Nyangweso will have a boost in his playing unit with the acquisition of midfielder Kelvin Thairu, who is officially confirmed to join the Kenya Army.

Thairu has been signed from Mount Kenya United, who were relegated at the end of the season 2018-19. He will join the likes of Stephen Waruru and Boniface Okinyi to strengthen the midfield section of Ulinzi.

Nyangwesohas admitted that the player has been on the club’s radar for a while and is keen to reap on his expertise as an attacking midfielder, citing his ball distribution in midfield as a key attribute.

“Thairu is a good player; we’ve been following him for a while now and we are happy to have him. Tactically, he comes in to boost our midfield, especially on the attacking front because we really needed that. He has a good supply of balls in midfield and we are looking to reap a lot from that.

“He has started training and I expect him to gel well with the others as time goes; that is the essence of having him in the preseason,” Nyangweso said.

The former Mount Kenya United star has already reported to training with his new club and the coach believes that he will get along with new teammates with time.
