Tunisia will take on Nigeria on Wednesday for the African Cup of Nation third-place battle at Al-Salaam Stadium Cairo. Tunisia defender Mohamed Drager said the team is highly motivated to win the Third-place (bronze) match of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
After heartbreaking their supporters in the semis, Tunisia and Nigeria will be keen to bag the bronze at the tournament. The Carthage Eagles lost 1-0 to the Teranga Lions of Senegal in the semifinals on Sunday while the Super Eagles blew their chance to the Desert Foxes after they were beaten 2-1.
But Dragger believes Tunisia have all it takes to defeat their opponents. “We are professional players and each of us has to find motivation from within. I don’t think anyone has to struggle to find motivation because as professionals, we must fight to win every game, ” Drager told media.
“The loss to Senegal in the semi-final was tough but our fans deserve to be happy at the end, so we have to fight and win this game for them, ” he continued.
Tunisia is one of the most successful African national teams in competitions, having won one African Cup of Nations, as tournament hosts in 2004. They have also been runners-up twice in 1965 as hosts and 1996 held in South Africa.
But they will be battling it against a tougher opponent, Nigeria, who have won the AFCON title thrice, with their recent being in 2013 after beating Burkina Faso in the final.
