President Kenyatta has sent a message of condolence to the family and friends of Kisumu County Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o following the death of his mother, Mama Dorcas Owino.
The President has described Mama Dorcas as a matriarch who devoted her time in serving her family and country.
Mama Dorcas Owino Nyongo died at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi.
According to a family statement mama Dorcas who had been admitted at the facility for some days died on Tuesday at 1.55 pm.
Among those who have sent their messages of condolences is former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who eulogized the deceased as a woman who was dedicated to serving the nation.
“Our family will be forever grateful for the friendship we formed that has stood the test of time. Our hearts and prayers are with the entire Nyongo clan at this moment of grief. May God grant the family the fortitude and faith to cope with the loss.” Raila added.
The ODM leader said that death is a big blow to the nation.
The death of Mama Dorcas came at a time when Governor Nyong’o and her sister Dr. Risper Nyong’o were set to know their fate after they were found guilty of contempt of court in an estate row pitting him against nephews.
The delivery of the verdict was pushed to Thursday after they both failed to appear in court following their mother’s death.
