A look at the top contestants for AFC Leopards chairmanship post

AFC Leopards is set to hold the election on June 23, 2019, and five contestants will battle for the posts.

979 people have been registered to vote for who will replace Dan Mule who has gone silent since 2019.

We look at the top three contestants:

Dan Shikanda:

Shikanda holds a Bachelor Of Veterinary Medicine, Advanced Management Training, South Africa. He was part of Leopards squad that won the league in 1986-1990.  Besides spending five seasons at the den, he featured for Gor Mahia and the National team Harambe stars.

The legend was part of the recent committee which worked round the clock to ensure AFC is not relegated and now he says if elected the  focus on 2019 /2020 season will be to amass 72 points

He has previously worked as a Regional Manager for Abbott Laboratories an American company for 8years, Marketing manager for Aga Khan hospital for 2 years, Lead a DFID(Department for International Development for UK government) project for 5 years and currently a Market Systems Development consultant working for Cardno Emerging Markets East Africa (an Australian consultancy firm).

He plunged into elective politics in 1997 when he tried to be MP for Makadara. He lost to the late Dick Wathika. He did not stop there and was back on the ballot for bigger things. He tried this year’s Governorship as running mate to Peter Kenneth.

Boniface Ambani

Boniface Ngairah Ambani who was born 4 November 1982 in Naivasha is also eyeing the Leopards season he has a short stint at AFC Leopards and was among AFC Leopards who won the league in 1998.

He has been in charge of the AFC Leopards Under 20 squad and has had a successful stint with the youngsters. He has never shied from condemning mismanagement at the club.

The owner of Bonchend sports is remembered for his scoring skills that earned him the topscorer award in the Kenyan Premier League 2006 season with 20 goals for Tusker. He launched a move which saw him award hattrick scorers walk away with a match all.

Maurice Amahwa 

He has led the Mombasa branch for some time and he will be vying for the seat for the second time. The well-heeled contestant has caused ripples at the Den after embedding himself among supporters with his generosity in funding activities such as funerals and away trips to Kisumu, Machakos, Mumia and Mombasa cheer the team in away matches.

Amahwa Told the Nation Sport  “I intend to approach the Governors in Western Kenya to be patrons and lead the club on a rotational basis. This will help in bringing in support and funding. I will also retain the current technical team led by coach Casa Mbungo. They have done a good job.”
