Gor Mahia head coach over the moon after KPL triumph

Gor Mahia Head coach says it a good feeling to have delivered the Kenya Premier League title after a tough season which was marred with congestion of fixtures.

The side sealed their Kenya Premier League title race after a 1-1 draw against Vihiga United at Machakos Stadium on Wednesday.  The side has played over 50 matches so far and the coach admits it has been a tough journey.

He says his next target is to excel in the CAF Champions League clash set for later this year.

“After Asia now its Africa. It is good to win the league because it is a marathon. We played a lot of matches. We had to play the champions league, the confederation cup, and the league. We now need to concentrate on the Champions League matches next season and do better,”

On the Vihiga match he said:

“It was very hard. As I said I better play the second or third place side instead of a relegation-battling team. They really fought hard and I have to give them credit. We had chances in both halves but we did not take but it is not a bad draw,” he added.

Oktay has been award as the Sports Journalists/ Fidelity Insurance coach of the month of April.

In April, Gor Mahia played a total eight matches, won five got one walk over and drew three matches. They scored 12 goals in the eight matches and conceded six goals. The side kept three clean-sheets.

The tactician was awarded a trophy, and 75, 000 held at the Camp Toyoyo ground on ThursdayThis is the second time Oktay is bagging the award this season after collecting it in February.

Oktay beat AFC Leopards’ Cassa Mbungo and Kakamega Homeboyz Nicholas Muyoti to collect the award.
