Former Malindi MP Willy Baraka Mtengo has dismissed claims of misappropriating 4.5 million shillings national government constituency development funds during his tenure.

Mtengo argued he was not in office when the funds were lost between 2013/2014 and 2015/2016 instead blaming his predecessor who left office on appointment to the cabinet.

This comes following protests by residents in a campaign dubbed “where is my NGCDF”.

In a campaign dumped  ‘Where is My National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF) irate Malindi residents on Friday last week erected a billboard displaying Malindi NG-CDF projects implementation status report as at May 2016.

The residents pointed an accusatory finger at the former MP accusing him of squandering the money on phantom projects.

The residents alongside civil societies challenged the MP to take responsibility for the about Sh4.5 million shillings allegedly lost.

However, Mtengo has distanced himself from the Malindi NG-CDF projects implementation status report erected by the residents, saying that he had not yet assumed office by then.

The former ODM MP revealed that the financial years, 2013/2014 to 2015/2016, that was allegedly marred with misappropriation of the NG-CDF were under the then Malindi MP Dan Kazungu Mzee, who is currently the Kenyan Ambassador to Tanzania.

He further claimed he was elected on March 7, 2016, after a by-election following the appointment of Kazungu as the Cabinet Secretary for Mining.
