Red Devils: Why Mourinho Was a Better ‘Devil’ at United Than Solskjaer

“Better the devil you know than the angel” This is a phrased commonly used in many societies to caution people from highly believing in strangers.

Manchester United began the season 2018/2019 on a very poor form, giving results that don’t concur with the stature of the club.

Then, United were being managed by Jose Mourinho, who is undoubtedly one of the best managers known in the football world.

When Mourinho came to United, hopes were high and everyone knew that United will receive some revival under one of the most successful managers of all time.

But things didn’t work well for the Portuguese during his time, though he won the Europa League title and helped United feature in 2018/2019 Champions League competition.

However, due to consecutive loss, United decided to fire Mourinho and appointed Solskjaer in place of Mourinho in December last year.

Solskjaer began well during his time as caretaker manager until when he was given the job as permanent manager.

Since then United have lost many matches that have even denied them a top-four finish.

Most notably, when Mourinho left Old Trafford, United were 19 points behind Premier League leaders and was in position six.

Ironically, Solskjaer who was considered to be the savior of United has left the club in a worse situation- 32 points behind the Premier League leaders though in the same position.

With the stats, it can be deduced that Mourinho was a better manager than Solskjaer.

The biggest question now is; had United left Mourinho in the club, could they finish in the top-four position?
