Being in the Europa League next season will damage United’s chances of landing their top transfer targets.
It will also cost them up to £50m in lost revenue and Solskjaer has admitted he has a huge task ahead in making United a force to be reckoned with once again.
Young admits United have fallen well short this season but doesn’t know why.
The England international said: “I can’t fault the effort and attitude. We applied ourselves, but we needed to help ourselves and we didn’t do that.
“I’m not sure what it is. It could be a number of things but right know we can’t put our finger on it.
