Manchester United to welcome back key player ahead of Chelsea clash

Man Utd manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken about Ander Herrera ahead of the Chelsea fixture.

Ander Herrera could return from injury for Manchester United against Chelsea on Sunday despite his expected summer move to Paris Saint-Germain.

The 29-year-old has not played since he suffered a thigh injury against Watford on March 30, having spent the best part of a month out with a hamstring injury sustained in the late February draw with Liverpool.

Herrera was filmed doing ball-work in training last week but was not included in the Everton or Manchester City matchday squads. Herrera is understood to have agreed a pre-contract agreement with Paris Saint-Germain but Solskjaer suggested there was nothing untoward about the Spaniard’s recent absence.

“I would think so yeah,” Solskjaer said. “There’s three games left and Ander’s been training, enthusiastic and will probably be involved on Sunday, can’t guarantee but he’s trained the last two days. He’s been injured.”

“That’s not down to the last six, seven or eight games, that’s where we are at the moment and we have a great challenge ahead of us to get us up challenging again.

“They’ve all seen the reality the last few weeks where we’re at, if you look at the team total points last five seasons, I don’t know if you can give me that average?”

Antonio Valencia (knee) and Eric Bailly (head) reported for training at Carrington earlier this week but it is unclear whether either will be considered for selection.
