List of banned Ex-Harambee Stars defender George Owino’s former clubs

According to FIFA, former Harambee Stars star, George Owino through a series of emails allegedly engaged in unethical conduct by appearing to have conspired in order to play under instructions for match manipulation purposes.

CLUB HISTORY

Owino enjoyed quite a stellar club career donning the shirts of the former Kenyan Premier League champions Mathare United, Tusker and Sofapaka.

Back in July 2009, the defender was invited for trials with a Gerrman side  Fortuna Düsseldorf with his then national team coach Antoine Hey playing a role in the invitation.

He, however, did not pass the trials but came back to rejoin Saint George of Ethiopia.

Currently Owino has played for Tusker, Simba SC of Tanzania(2007) and St.George(2008).

In 2010, he left the Tanzanian giants Young Africans and joined Sofapaka who had won the KPL title.

FIFA INVESTIGATIONS

Owino, who left Mathare United after his contract expired in December last year, said he knew nothing about the investigations when contacted for comment by the Nation Sport on Monday.

“Let’s wait for Fifa to call me over the same then I can speak. For now I do not know anything. I am hearing it from you for the first time,” he said.

Only now that he knew he has been banned for ten good years and also slapped with a Ksh 1.5 Million ban.

The formal disciplinary proceedings into the aforementioned individual stemmed from an extensive investigation into various international matches that Mr Wilson Raj Perumal attempted to manipulate for betting purposes.

“This large-scale investigation was conducted by FIFA over several years through its Integrity Department and in cooperation with the relevant stakeholders and authorities,” FIFA further stated.FIFA headquarters in Switzerland
