Critical services at the Bungoma referral hospital have been crippled following a water shortage at the facility amid heavy rains pounding the area.

The worst hit departments are theatre and maternity wards; with patients lined up for surgery being referred to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, Eldoret.

The county referral hospital serving over 2 million people has been without water for a week.

Mothers who give birth at the facility have been advised to fetch water from the neighbourhood for their laundry.
