Makau Mutua: Why it’s hard for Uhuru to destroy Ruto’s presidency!

The great law professor of all the time Makau Mutua is known for expressing his thoughts fearlessly especially when critisizing jubilee government and especially deputy president William Ruto.

The professor is at DP Ruto once again but this time around for smart observations. According to him, Deputy President William Ruto has done three-quarters of the journey to State House!

Mutua observed that Dp Ruto strategized early and has been working hard to capture the seat. One of those strategies involved accumulating adequate sums of cash for the job. According to him, DP Ruto strategized early and has been working hard to capture the seat.

“Ruto knew the only way to play in the big leagues is to grab wealth – by hook, or crook,” Mutua argues.

This is the most important thing that Ruto got right, says the professor. “Ruto’s accumulation of money is a masterstroke,” he observes.

In an opinion penned for the Standard newspaper y where he has been a columnist for many years, Prof Mutua did not hide his sympathy for President Uhuru Kenyatta.

According to the professor, who usually oozes hatred for Ruto from every pore of his skin, Mr Kenyatta intends to fix his deputy but has been making many mistakes when conceiving and executing his game plan.

The biggest blunder, he says, was to allow Ruto to get too close to him and see all his weaknesses. “This is the cardinal sin that Gatundu’s Uhuru Kenyatta committed with Eldoret’s William Ruto, when the duo formed Jubilee,” he says.

The dissolution of Uhuru’s TNA and Ruto’s URP was also a calculated scheme by Ruto, he says. According to the controversial columnist, the DP control over sizable chunk of government.

This control, says Mutua, did not come by accident. “One of those keys has been to pack the political branches – the executive and the legislature – with his lackeys and allies,” he says.

“Ruto has either bought, or installed, or corralled three-quarters of all elected leaders in Mt Kenya,” he adds. For Mutua, Uhuru has been trying hard to destroy his deputy but to no avail.

“It’s clear Kenyatta’s policy of containment against Ruto has failed,” he said.
