Naivasha is in numerous occasions associated with weird crime reports of rape, violent robberies, the slaughter of donkeys and even the dreaded “vampire” that have hit headlines leaving many worried.

The name is derived from the Maasai word Nai’posha (rough water).

Police officers are forced to work extra hard to meet the expectations of residents. The odd and queer cases have seen the services of the police officers stretched as they attend to the over 400,000 residents.

Transport has been cited as the biggest handicap in police operations in the area.

Naivasha is unique. So it makes sense the Magic town’s criminals are also an unusual breed.

We have scoured police blotters over the past several years to find the strangest criminal charges.Here are seven more of the most bizarre lawbreakers:

Geoffrey Matheri the Vampire

In 2008, two women were rescued from a house in Naivasha’s Kihoto slums in deplorable health. The two, Esther Akinyi and Naomi Wanjiru, could barely speak. They claimed they had been kidnapped, raped and drugged by an unknown stranger who drained and drunk their blood as they watched.

After investigating the matter, police in Naivasha arrested 26-year-old Geoffrey Matheri alias Fungo as the key suspect, and exhumed the body of a woman with some parts missing from a shallow grave in his house.

Matheri reportedly told detectives he committed the evil acts as instructed by Bishop Jeremiah Parangyo. He drunk human blood and sold his victims’ body parts to members of a religious cult.

Subsequently, police arrested Bishop Parangyo of New Hope for All Nations Church, who told reporters that his detractors were out to malign him.

Philip Ondari Onyancha blood sucker

In 2009, Philip Ondari Onyancha who was 32 by then, hit the media headlines after he allegedly confessed to having killed 19 women and children.

Onyancha, who is now serving his jail terms in Kamiti Maximum Prison, was a former G4S security guard who was introduced to a cult by his teacher, Elizabeth Wambui.

This cult was to make him rich after completing his duty, which was to kill 100 people within 5 years.

Confessing during a police interview, Onyancha admitted that he would lure the victims who were women and children due to their weakness into his secret hideouts where he would kill them and suck blood.

Boys Murder

In April 2019,irate members of the public on Sunday morning lynched a man and set on fire the family’s houses after the body of a missing boy was found in his home.

During the incident in Kinamba estate, the suspects mother was seriously injured after the mob set on her after she tried to rescue her middle aged son who was accused of the murder.

It’s feared that the suspect s3xually abused the minor who went missing on Saturday before the body was found under his bed on Sunday morning.

Naivasha was one of the epicentres of the 2007/08 post-election violence mainly targeting perceived ODM supporters.

The violence in Naivasha between the January 27 and the 30, 2008 was pre-planned and executed by Mungiki members who received the support of Naivasha political and business leaders.

That are among the many sad reasons why Naivasha seems ‘cursed’.
