A middle-aged woman from Ilesi Village in Shinyalu Constituency, Kakamega County has accused her father-in-law of sexual harassment just a few months after her husband’s burial.
Selina Nekesa, a mother of seven, claims her father-in-law has been pestering her for sex. Her attempts to rebuff him have been met by threats of eviction, says Nekesa.
The widow, 45, alleges that her husband’s father has given her an ultimatum of 14 days to vacate her matrimonial home, which is built on his compound.
“He has threatened to demolish my husband’s house if the 14 days elapse and I am still here,” said Nekesa.
“I do not know my next destination should I leave my home. My late husband never told me he owns land elsewhere. I have seven children, how do you expect me to house them? He claims the 14-day ultimatum was issued by the courts,” said Nekesa.
The widow’s neighbours, led by human rights activist, Aggrey Majimbo, have urged the police to take action against the accused.
“According to our Isukha culture, it is prohibited for a father-in-law to have sexual intercourse with his daughter-in-law. As a result, this woman needs protection,” one of Nekesa’s neighbours said.
The accused is yet to respond to Nekesa’s allegations.
