One Solomon Ngatia(37) sat for the 2018 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) but is now afraid that the challenge might shatter his dream of becoming a doctor.
An attempted murder convict at the Nakuru GK Prison, says he is on the edge of not realizing his life goals due to the unavailability of a secondary school facility in the prison.
Ngatia who is now a stand-in teacher at the facility’s primary school is now at loss on what to do, considering that securing a transfer to another prison is another tough job.
“I attained 403 marks, but I am unable to continue with my education, due to lack of secondary school education in our facility.
Unless I am transferred to Naivasha Prison where they offer secondary education, which requires a lot of protocol,” he said. Addressing the issue, the officer in charge of prisons Japheth Onchiri said that his request for a transfer has since been presented to the relevant authorities.
He lauded Ngatia who is serving a 30-year-sentence but noted that securing the transfer can be a long and tiresome journey as the approval takes time. “Ngatia posted very good results because he is determined to pursue his education regardless of the condition he is in,” he said.
Ngatia, a father of two, says that he landed in prison after being involved in a fight at a drinking joint within Nakuru.
