Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho could mark his return to management with Bayern Munich, according to reports.
The Bundesliga side have had a season to forget under Niko Kovac, having crashed out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage and are currently second in the league.
Paco Alcacer’s last-gasp double against Wolfsburg saw Dortmund open up a two-point lead at the top of the table after Bayern were held to a 1-1 draw with Freiburg on Saturday.
Mourinho, who has been out of work since being sacked by United in December, has said he wants to return to management this summer.
And French outlet Foot Mercato say Bayern want Mourinho to replace Kovac, who has two years left on his contract.
Speaking earlier this month, the Portuguese coach said: “I want to return this summer, starting from June, for the beginning of the season.
“I know exactly what I don’t want, which is why I have already turned down three or four offers.
“I also know what I do want. I don’t mean the name of the club, but the type of work, the style of club.”
On Wednesday, French newspaper L’Equipe’s front-page story claimed Mourinho is harbouring hopes of managing Lyon or Monaco in Ligue 1 next season.
