Echesa: President Kenyatta is plotting to ‘kill’ sugar sector

Former Sports Cabinet Secretary, Rashid Echesa has accused President Uhuru Kenyatta of plotting to ‘kill’ the sugar sector after failed explaination as to why he was sacked.

Echesa now claims several of his friends and Western Kenya leaders have abandoned him.

The former CS made these claims while addressing mourners during the burial of former acting managing Director of Nzoia Sugar Micheal Kulundu.

“I have a family, I have a following of people and friends asking questions which I can’t answer. People are asking what I did to Uhuru. Even my own children are asking me why I was fired,” said Echesa.

Echesa was sacked by President Uhuru Kenyatta on March 1 and replaced by Amina Mohammed.

He said the bilateral agreement between President Kenyatta and his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni allowed Uganda to export milk and eggs to Kenya and increasing the annual sugar import quota from Uganda was bound to hurt the agricultural sector in Western Kenya.
