With the rampant increase in counterfeit products, posing a wide variety of health hazards to consumers, designated state anti-counterfeit agency the Anti-counterfeit Agency (ACA) has compiled a list of fast moving products with a high likelihood of being fake if not properly scrutinised.

ACA has warned consumers to therefore “buy from legitimate, licensed and authorized outlets” such products.

The agency further warned on its Twitter that the fast moving products “have a brand reputation in terms of tested quality and would make good margins to counterfeiters.”

They also include food & alcoholic beverages, pharmaceuticals, cigarettes, soap & detergents, shoe polish, batteries, pens & branded stationery, electrical & electronic equipment.

This comes in the wake of a major crackdown on fake products in the Kenyan market.

The agency last week seized counterfeit fragrance from Madora store at the Hub Mall in Karen.

It also confiscated fake 500 liters of fake fuel in Nairobi’s Kariokor area.

This is in addition to reports of fake condoms, fake phones and fake medicine that the Anti-Counterfeit Agency has gotten a hold of, and is still in a thorough process to seize more, alongside the traders behind the illegal trade.
