Ranked! Arsene Wenger’s best victories as Arsenal manager (Video)

Arsene Wenger had been at Arsenal for 22 years by the time he announced his retirement towards the end of last season. The Frenchman won 3 league titles at the London club among other honors. Here, we look at three of his best victories as Arsenal manager.

Manchester United 0 Arsenal 1 (2002)

Back in the late 90s and early 2000s, Arsenal and Manchester United were locked in a heated rivalry that usually meant whoever came on top was the English Champion. On this day, Arsene Wenger and his troops visited Old Trafford knowing that a win would hand them the title at the home of their biggest enemy.

Theirry Henry was injured for this match but the Gunners hel their own to win through a Sylvian Wiltord strike in the second half, much to Sir Alex and Manchester United’s displeasure.

Arsenal 2 Barcelona 1 (2011)

Arsene Wenger started a project whereby he would sign youngster and grow them into superstars from the year 2008.The team reached it’s peak in 2011 with the likes of Cesc a Fabregas, Samir Nasri and Robin Van Persie all in top form when Pep Guardiola’s all conquering Barcelona side visited the Emirates for a Champions League knockout fixture.

Lionel Messi set up David Villa to score the opening goal but Wenger’s youngsters held their own to record a memorable 2-1 comeback win with goals from Robin Van Persie and Andrei Arshavin. Barcelona went on to win the Champions League that season which illustrates just how good Arsenal were that night.

Arsenal 3 Hull City 2 (2014)

Arsenal were in a 9 year trophy drought when they played Hull City in the FA Cup final back in 2014. The Gunners endured a nightmare start when the underdogs scored twice in the first ten minutes but Arsenal fought back to win the game 3-2 in extra time. This is probably Arsene Wenger’s biggest victory in his second half of his Arsenal career, had he lost this match, a lot would have changed and he would have surely been fired!
