We all know that sleep is vital for much of our day-to-day functioning – without some quality shut-eye, we all struggle to concentrate, can feel sluggish, and will often notice the effects on our tired faces.
However, helping our bodies to recover after a busy day isn’t all about the quality of sleep we get, but also about the items we’re laying our heads down on, it seems.
Posting on her Instagram account, Victoria Beckham recently revealed that she couldn’t be without her silk pillowcase at night.
She shared with her fans that she loves sleeping on a Slip pure silk pillowcase, which retails for around £85.
And it seems as though the fashion icon’s sleep essential should actually be something we should all we working into our bedding, considering the amazing benefits sleeping on silk can offer.
The natural properties of silk, and it’s smooth, frictionless surface, can apparently give your hair and face some huge boosts.
Silk reduces friction on your hair, meaning you’re less likely to wake up with frizzy, flyaway locks – particularly handy if you need to get up and go quickly in the morning. Normal pillows can cause breakage and damage to our hair, something silk is far less likely to do.
Pillowcases made of silk may also be particularly beneficial for your face. It’s reported that the smooth, flat surface of such a pillowcase can held reduce pressure on your face, allowing your face to smoothly move around at night.
In turn, the silk can help to stop those noticeable sleep creases, by eradicating the pressure on your face.
Silk is also naturally hypoallergenic, meaning it can be particularly helpful for people with sensitive skin or allergies which can affect their skin.
Sleep on your back
Sleeping on your stomach or on of your sides means there is constant pressure on your face. Over time, this action will produce unwanted sleep lines. You can remedy this by sleeping on your back. This way you will not apply any pressure to your face. For many people though, this might be uncomfortable, and you can’t control your involuntary sleep movement leading you to a side or stomach position. But, you can practice and can get used to it over time.
Wear night cream
Night creams are heavy, ultra-moisturizing lotions that you probably couldn’t get away with wearing during the day (glowing is one thing, greasy is another). Choose one that contains hyaluronic acid, which helps plump and firm the skin.
Get a full night’s rest
It might sound obvious, but getting the right amount of sleep is necessary. It is important to sleep 7 to 8 hours a night to rejuvenate the skin. That’s why it’s called beauty sleep!
