Taita Taveta County to invest in projects upscaled to control floods

The Taita Taveta County has shared the need to take up projects aimed at controlling floods.

The discussions were today held during the Knowledge and Experience Sharing Symposium on Floods Based Livelihood Interventions.

 As revealed by the county’s official twitter page, the symposium seeks to explore innovative flood water harvesting for agroforestry development in Arid&Temperature ecological regions.

Speaking during the symposium, the Deputy Governor of Taita taveta county; Majala Mlagui said it was indeed delightful to discuss positive aspects of what people consider disasters.

 She also stated that it is a timely forum to discuss what to institute as plans to mitigate flood water and capture the scarce resources.

PS Prof. Fred Segor  who was also in attendance of the symposium said that they  will work together with the county to capture projects that are critical.

“We cannot impose programs, look at the areas you want us to fund, if there is a shortfall we can collaborate and assist.” He added

The governors manifesto has 5 key issues in agriculture which focus on increasing area under irrigation to ensure farmers benefit from irrigation and change from subsistence farming to commercial. Projects which were presented during the symposium are aimed to control floods.

The County Government in collaboration with other partners is undertaking major projects including the construction of Mukuru dam to serve Kishushe residents, rehabilitation of Njoro Kubwa canal and a water pan in Buguta

The Deputy Governor also highlighted that they want their farmers to implement commercial and large scale projects.
