fight against terrorism, extremism receives a major boost with new “commando tactics”

The fight against terrorism and extremism has been a long painful enemy to the nation. The recent case is the seizing of a hand propelled grenade in Thika Road in Nairobi. Five suspects were arrested.

But this war is far from over. New tactics are always being devised to curb this deadly menace.

To combat terrorism and violent extremism, Haji said investigations are currently under way on officers working in various government departments such as National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and banks that facilitated commission of the offences.

“The office has found it necessary to review its organisational structure and staffing levels in order to improve its responsiveness to the emerging trends and also enhance efficiency in delivery of its mandate,” he said.

On witness protection, Haji wants his office to be allowed to manage the fund and not the Judiciary. The DPP said Chief Justice David Maraga had agreed to the said proposal which he added can be addressed administratively.

“There are cases which we have lost because the witnesses fail to appear in court for lack of facilitation. We feel that the vote on facilitation should be channeled to the ODPP and not Judiciary,” said Haji.

He also requested Parliament to facilitate an additional Sh750 million after Treasury slashed its allocation from Sh4.9 billion to Sh3 billion.
