Activists to hold memorial service to celebrate late Caroline Mwatha’s contributions to human rights

Activists in the country have will hold a massive memorial service to celebrate the life and times of the late Caroline Mwatha, despite her controversial death. Mwatha, as TUKO.co.ke reported, tragically lost her life in what was initially unclear circumstances on Monday, February 12.

An autopsy later established that the Dandora-based activist most likely passed away from excessive bleeding following a botched abortion procedure.Reports that Mwatha might have passed away trying abort a child cooled down the mass anger that was growing online following her demise.

Regardless, fellow activists have taken to celebrate one of their oLed by former Starehe constituency aspirant Boniface Mwangi, activists will on Thursday, February 21 gather at the Freedom corner for the occasion. “Celebrating Caroline Mwatha’s Life, Memorial Service is tomorrow, Thursday, 21st February 2018, Freedom Corner 3pm-5pm.

A vigil will follow from 5pm- 7pm. You’re all welcome to celebrate her life and the great work she did as a human rights defender,” Mwangi tweeted.Mwatha, a co-founder of the Dandora Community Justice Centre and the Social Justice Centers Working Group, was reportedly following up on cases of extra judicial killing in Dandora.

She is also said to be a founding member of the Dandora Community Justice Centre and the Social Justice Centers Working Group. A section of activists have however come forward with their own account of events which seem to back reports that Mwatha’s death was a result of foul-play.
