Five feared dead after light aircraft crashes in Mukutao forest Londiani

Five people were killed after a light aircraft crashed at Kamwingi area in Londiani, Kericho County.

The plane reportedly developed a mechanical problem before hitting a tree.

Confirming the incident, Rift Valley Police Commander Edward Mwamburi stated that five people were feared dead.

The police are however yet to give details on the number of casualties. Mwamburi disclosed that police and rescue teams were headed to the scene.

However this is not the first time a light aircraft crashed.

Last year a trainee pilot narrowly escaped death after a light aircraft he was flying crashed into an electric post  injuring one person after it failed to ascend high enough during take-off.

Locals who witnessed the accident at around 10.30am managed to rescue a pilot trainee from the wreckage.

Confirming the incident, Malindi International Airport manager, Mohamed Karama stated that the plane, a Cessna 152 failed to achieve the required altitude during take-off causing it to collide with the post in Furunzi area in Malindi.

Karama noted that a pilot trainee who was commandeering the plane was rescued and taken to Tawfique Hospital for treatment.
