‘We’ve got our United back’ Paul Scholes lauds Ole Gunnar’s perfect start

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes made no secret of his dislike for how the club played under Jose Mourinho.

Regularly used as a pundit for United games, Scholes regularly criticised Mourinho and his tactics even going as so far to say the Portuguese coach was “out of control.”

While Scholes’ own immediate future is the subject of some speculation – linked once again with the manager job at Oldham Athletic – he has been pleased with the transformation overseen by his former team-mate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Norwegian has led United to seven wins since taking over and tomorrow night, they go to the Emirates in the FA Cup. It’s this run of results – and the restoration of a feelgood factor at Old Trafford – which has changed Scholes’ perception.

“Since Ole has come back you feel like you’ve got your club back,” enthused Scholes to the Manchester Evening News. “You don’t ever feel like you’ve lost it, I suppose, but it just feels like you’ve got someone there who knows Man United.

“He’s been a player, you look at Ole and he’s a United man. I know he’s had jobs at other clubs but he’s a United person. You’d almost feel welcome there again.”

Scholes also added that it was disappointing that more former players were not involved in the day-to-day running of United. Several of the Class of 92 are involved with non-league side Salford City but Scholes added that he believed it was the intention of his former boss Sir Alex Ferguson to keep more former players involved after they retired from playing.
