Yaya Toure linked with move to Scottish giants this January

Former Manchester City favourite Yaya Toure could make Celtic switch

Celtic have emerged as the frontrunners to land former Manchester City favourite Yaya Toure according to the Gazzetta.gr.

Yaya’s older brother Kolo is a coach at Celtic and has apparently been approached by Brendan Rodgers in a bid to persuade him to join Celtic.

Last week, 35-year-old Yaya left Olympiacos as a free agent and has plenty of options as he weighs up his next club. He made just four appearances for the Greek side after he left Manchester City at the end of last season.

Yaya is a guest on Sky Sports’ coverage of Manchester City v Wolverhampton Wanderers later so is bound to be quizzed on his next move. He is still regarded as a hero at the Etihad though rumours persisted of unrest between him and boss Pep Guardiola.

Rodgers is still looking for January reinforcements as he looks to keep Celtic’s title push on track. It is believed the club wanted Jermaine Defore from Bournemouth but the former England striker chose to link up with his former team-mate Steven Gerrard at Rangers.

However Celtic have been busy in this window with Oliver Burke, Timothy Weah and Vakoun Issouf Bayo joining the club. They are still being linked with USA left-back Andrew Gutman.

Yaya may not fit into the bracket of exciting young players but his experience could prove vital, even if only for a few months.

The former Ivory Coast star also played for Monaco and Barcelona during his career but won three Premier League titles during his time at City.
