Uhuru Kenyatta has today received the Tourism Sector Performance Report 2018 from the Ministry of Tourism CS Najob Balala at State House.
The report highlights international tourist arrivals, domestic tourism performance and tourism receipts.
Kenyatta said that Kenya has seen tremendous growth in the sector with tourism receipts growing by 31.26% to 157.3 billion in 2018, international visitor arrivals growing by 37.33% to 2.02 million in 2018 and domestic bednights growing by 9.03% to 3.97 million in 2018.
The Head of state congratulated the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, and stakeholders in the tourism sector for the growth achieved in 2018.
He also urged the Ministry and stakeholders to strive to drive this growth even further in 2019.
The report also indicates that arrivals surpass two million mark, majority from US as Tanzania & Uganda emerge as new markets.
The President today also presided over the ground-breaking ceremony for the Mama Ngina Waterfront Project in Mombasa.
The project is expected to transform and rejuvenate Mombasa into a leading and competitive world class tourism destination.
For Mombasa County, the Mama Ngina water park means revamping the tourism sector as well as one of the ways to create jobs entrepreneurship opportunities as well as give locals and tourists a perfect scenery.
This project will be a great contribution to the tourism sector in Mombasa and will equally contribute to economic development.
