Back home!!CS Achesa’s belly dancers gets free flight

Sports CS Rashid Echesa implicated in human trafficking case

Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Rashid Echesa’s foreign belly dancers have been deported by the government.

The eight Pakistani ladies were accosted by police at a Balle Balle club in Parklands, and arraigned in court on charges of being in the country illegally.

It was reported that CS Achesa allegedly granted permission for the eight foreign girls, who are said to be dancers, to be allowed into the country to promote transnational culture.

The ladies who were all aged above 18 are, however, suspected to have been victims of human trafficking.

Defence lawyer Evans Ondieki told Senior Principal Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot that , each of the girls paid the Immigration Department Kshs 45,000 to be issued with the special passes allowing them to perform in the country until 18 January 2019.

Ondieki regretted that police had gone against the orders of the CS and pleaded with the court to release the 8 ladies on humanitarian grounds.

According to the Ministry of Interior, the deportation was based on the violation of regulation 26 (3) of Kenya Citizenship and Migration Regulations.

“Investigations are still going on to establish the circumstances in which the women came into Kenya ostensibly to promote transnational culture but ended up in suspicious places”,Interior spokeswoman Wangui Muchiri was quoted.

The court on Friday ordered the women to be kept in a safe house as police carried investigations to establish whether they were victims of human trafficking.

This is not the first case of human trafficking to be reported in Kenya.

In June 2018, police raided two popular strip clubs in Nairobi and rescued 21 female Nepalese strippers who were believed to be in the country illegally.
