Real Madrid’s out of favour goalkeeper Keylor Navas has emerged as a potential target for Arsenal according to reports from Spain today.

Unai Emery is an admirer of the keeper who has lost his place to Thiabut Courtois since Santiago Solari took over as Real Madrid boss. Earlier in the season under Julen Loptegui, the goalkeeping role was shared between Courtois and Navas but the change in management saw Courtois emerge as the number one choice.

Costa Rican Navas has been getting about his business without too much fuss but with the January transfer window around the corner, talk has again ignited that he could be looking to move in a bid to secure regular first team football.

There is a suggestion that Real are looking to give their transfer kitty a boost because they want to sign Brahim Diaz and Navas would bring in around €14million.

It all seems a bit harsh on Navas who hasn’t done anything wrong and at 32 finds himself on the outer. He was a consistent performer at Champions League level and also impressed for his country in the World Cup.

In November, Navas told the ‘El Chiringuito’ programme: “I went from winning three consecutive Champions Leagues to not playing.”

Navas is not the only star name to have suffered since Solari took over with Isco and Marco Asensio also apparently unhappy at the reduction in first-team minutes.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Asensio in the past but Real Madrid’s summer recruitment programme was put on hold when Zinedine Zidane surprisingly resigned just days after they beat Liverpool in the Champions League final.
