‘Arsenal making significant progress under Unai Emery’

Gary Lineker hailed Arsenal‘s “significant progress” under Unai Emery after their 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Saturday.

Emery challenged the Gunners to “write a new history” ahead of their meeting with Liverpool in a bid to shift his squad’s mentality and ultimately improve their record against the Premier League elite.

And the Gunners showed spirit to fight back from 1-0 down to rescue a deserved point late on against Jurgen Klopp’s side, even if Sadio Mane’s strike had earlier been wrongly ruled out.

It means Arsenal have now gone 14 games unbeaten, winning 12, since opening their campaign with successive defeats to top-six rivals Manchester City and then Chelsea.

Home fans inside Emirates Stadium again chanted “we’ve got our Arsenal back” as the Gunners edged towards a merited point against Liverpool, and Emery and his team are beginning to win plaudits from further afield.

“Have to say, Arsenal’s progress under Emery is significant. Well I didn’t have to, but sod it,” former Tottenham striker Lineker tweeted.

Emery himself told BT Sport: “We wanted to win but also we had a very big team in front (of us) and for us I think the performance is good.

“We pushed, we worked the match doing our things tactically and also with our supporters pushing us with energy.

“And I think for every supporter it’s a very, very good match, I think it’s an amazing spectacle.

“But I am happy only 50 per cent because we wanted to win.”
