How scary it is to know that strangers are roaming in your compound during the darkness of the night with devilish intentions that could harm your precious soul.

This was the unfortunate tale of 65 year old Alice Muthoni who was killed on Tuesday night at her Gathanji home by bandits alleged to be from the neighbouring Samburu county.

According to residents, three armed men attacked her at around 9 pm after a foiled attempt to steal her two cows.

The raiders shot her three times on her stomach after she tried to raise alarm before leaving without stealing anything.

A resident, Bension Kamara, said the residents are living in fear following the latest banditry attack that comes in the backdrop of an operation that saw illegal grazers evicted from the area.

Tension is high at Ol Moran area in Laikipia County over renewed cattle raids in the area with the latest incident leaving one person dead.

He said that this is the third time the suspected bandits had attacked the village in the last one week.

Sossian Ward MCA Jacob Edung’ regretted that tension was rising in the area, after security operations were halted, urging the government to move with speed and ensure the safety of the local people.

Laikipia County Commander Simon Kipkeu said four people have so far been arrested in connection with the incident.

He added that they are being held at Ol Moran police station and are helping police with investigations.

Earlier on in March 24th atleast 10 people were on a Saturday killed during a cattle raid incident in Samburu County.

They’re said to have had a confrontation with residents leading to the killing of the ten people, with casualties from both sides.

“Ten people were killed and there are others injured,” a senior police officer said, “a security operation is underway and more officers have been sent there.”

Police said security has been intensified in the area, but no arrests were made.
