Is it right for the police to suspected thugs?
New details have emerged after the police shot dead six suspected thugs in Dandora over the weekend.
Speaking to a local radio station,Wilfred Olang of Dandora Justice Center says three of the slain suspects were members of the same family who were killed after one suspect took refuge into their house.
Adding that the police shot the wrong people.
“These people were sleeping when the thug got into their house from the roof. Police came, ordered them to lie down before shotting and killing them instantly.
The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) announced a new probe into the killing of the six suspected thugs in Dandora.
The investigation would seek to establish the facts of the matter.
“IPOA has launched Investigations into the shooting of 6 people by police in Dandora on Sunday”.
Adding that “IPOA is also probing the death of 3 people shot by police in Yatta last Tuesday. The law requires deaths caused by police action be investigated,”

Six suspected thugs who were shot on Sunday morning in Kifarage Dandora area claimed to have hijacked a motorbike rider and a passanger,robbed them at gunpoint, of properties that included the motorcycle registration KMEL 650 F, mobile phones, a handbag and cash.
The gangsters later tied the rider and raped the woman the rider was carrying.
Police say the lady is currently undergoing treatment and is in a critical condition.
Kifarage area has been mapped out as a criminal hideout by suspected gangsters.
According to the police dangerous criminals terrorizing people in Dandora and Kasarani use the area as a hideout.
“This is one area that has been giving us headache, its a well known place for harbouring dangerous criminals who normally terrorise innocent people within Dandora and Kasarani,” said the police.
A police report indicates that the assailants allegedly struck as the boda boda was on its way from Dandora to Lucky Summer estate at around 2.30 am.
The police said they recovered three home-made pistols with rounds of ammunition and all the items that were stolen from the boda boda rider and the passenger.
The lady was taken to MSF hospital.
On Friday another suspect was shot dead in Mathare slums after he and others had shot and injured a police officer during a botched robbery.
The officer was shot in the stomach as he confronted a gang that had robbed a supermarket in the slum. Two other suspects managed to escape on a motorcycle.
A pistol with two bullets was recovered.
Police have killed many thug suspects in the past few months . Most of the victims were killed in Dandora area and they are all young aged between 18 and 23.
There has been a concern on the number of youth being killed in the area. Five of those killed were linked to a gang that had allegedly shot dead a police officer in a matatu in a hijacking incident along Thika Road.
After the killings of the suspected thugs, police are usually accused of mistaken identity by the slain relatives.
