Kenyans on twitter have expressed their economic struggles following the advice from President Uhuru Kenyatta that Kenyans should think outside the box despite the fact that the Financial Bill was passed. This was a statement he shared on his twitter page today in regard to the Small and Medium sized entreprises conference that he attended today.
Even though the Finance Bill has been passed, let’s think outside the box on how to make the economy work especially for small and medium-sized enterprises | #SMEconference2018 #SMEroundtable @WilliamsRuto

President Uhuru Kenyatta affirmed his pledge to fight corruption as he was signing the 2018 Finance Bill into Law on the 21st of September.
The bill had been passed in parliament and it contained his proposals, among them cutting the budget and recommendation of an 8% VAT tax on petroleum products which was cut from the 16% VAT tax that had already been brought into effect by National Treasury CS Henry Rotich.
Kenyans had raised concerns on how they will suffer and struggle to make ends meet under the new tax measures although the President had given his commitment to ensure proper utilization of public resources for a better Kenya.
A month later the effect and response from Kenyans is still the same the cry for tax reduction over complaints on economic hardships.
Here are some of the reactions from Kenyans
uko na ufala sana. ‘think outside the box ‘while you tormented us economically already. It’s hard to make ends meet

Very unfortunate that you can say that sir. Have you seen how everyone is suffering? Your Govt has oppressed the small trader so badly with taxes and they cannot even access credit from financial institutions. How else can they think outside the box?

@UKenyatta, I do not have a box without which to think. The survival Small enterprises, like mine, are solely dependent on a vibrant economy. Make the economy vibrant again by encouraging investment into more productive sectors.

The finance bill shrunk everything and everyone in the box, our thoughts too.

I feel let down… How could you let one @HKRotich run the show @ Treasury coming up with crazy outta this world revenue estimates year in year out? What the heck were you guys thinking? You’ll leave us in an endless pit of debt. You’ve failed big time.
