DP Ruto gets a plan B to counter the referendum Push by ODM Party

Deputy President William Ruto and the Orange Democtatic Movement leaders have been in war over the push for referendum with DP Ruto strongly condemning the call for referendum while the opposition fully supporting.

According to recent reports the DP is said to have has made early plans to counter the referendum push advocated by ODM Leader Raila Odinga and believed to have support of close allies of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Apparently the DP has formed a team made up of close political allies and technocrats that is analyzing ways of neutering the campaign pushed by Odinga.

Among the proposals Ruto’s team has considered is introducing an age limit of 70 years for those vying for the office of the Presidency.

Such a law would block Odinga from running in the 2022 General Election.

According to Aldai MP  Cornelley Serem,   “We are also looking at suggesting an age limit of 70 for presidential candidates and a rotational presidency among other radical measures.”

The think-tank is also considering supporting the popular push to have a reduction in the number of people who represent Kenyans at various levels of government.

In addition he said, “We want to ensure only pro-people laws are passed, wage bill brought by over representations will be one of our main focus.”

Also in the referendum think-tank is outspoken Nandi Senator Simon Cherargei who said the team was ready with all past constitutional drafts for reference purposes.

“We have the Kilifi, Bomas, Naivasha (Wako) draft, the current and old Constitution which they will use as reference points as they work on their positions,” said Mr Cherargei.
