Arsenal suffer blow in midfielder pursuit

Ever Banega is set to reject Arsenal and Unai Emery in favour of staying at Sevilla this summer, according to a report in Spain.

Spanish media outlet Marca, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that the Argentina international is set to remain in Spain despite the lure of Premier League football.

The same article states that Arsenal were considering a swoop to sign the South American due to his cheap buyout clause of €20 million (£17.6m) in comparison to £25m-rated Lucas Torreira.

According to the same article, Banega has made it clear to Sevilla that he wants to remain at the La Liga club despite the chance to link up with his former manager Emery at Arsenal.

The experienced defensive midfielder was part of the Argentina team that suffered a disappointing round of 16 exit following a 4-3 loss to France last week.
