Manchester United refusing to allow Anthony Martial to join Tottenham

Manchester United are refusing to include Anthony Martial in any deal for Toby Alderweireld with Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs are understood to hold a firm interest in Martial and are attempting to sign him as part of a deal that will see Alderweireld move the opposite way.

The two clubs are currently discussing a deal for the Belgian defender with the North London club looking to offload the defender who is out of contract next summer.

With both Alderweireld and Tottenham unable to reach an agreement over a new contract, the Belgian look set to leave North London this summer.

Next summer, the former Ajax player is out of contract and Spurs are looking to sell him now with the prospect of receiving a large fee.

Alderweireld, since returning from a four-month injury lay-off, was frozen out of the squad by Pochettino making just five starts for the club in all competitions.

Mourinho has told United’s vice-executive Ed Woodward that he wants the club to sign the defender with the Portuguese manager looking to put behind him just a very disappointing season.

In exchange, Tottenham are hoping to sign Martial with manager Mauricio Pochettino a keen admirer of the French forward.

Whilst Spurs are seeking a fee in the region of £50m, they hope to include the 22-year-old in the deal, however, the Red Devils are resisting their attempts.

Although Martial has struggled for game time at Old Trafford this season, the club are reluctant to allow the player to leave, especially not to a domestic rival.
