Troopers say wrong-way intoxicated driver hits semi on I-5 in Castle Rock

The Washington State Patrol is looking for the owners of a dog that was found on I-90 near Exit 45.

A 58-year-old Castle Rock man is in custody after authorities say he drove intoxicated the wrong way on Interstate 5 Thursday night and hit a semi-truck head on — pinning the semi's driver in the cab.

Daren D. Bowlby was headed northbound on I-5 south around 11:30 p.m. just north of exit 42 when he hit Brian C. Campbell, 57, of Salem, who was in the same lane headed south, a Washington State Patrol press memo states.

Campbell's full-size semi-truck crashed through the right guardrail and rolled. He suffered multiple serious injures, Trooper and spokesperson Will Finn said, though he was wearing a seatbelt, and was transported to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center.

Bowlby was not wearing a seatbelt in his GMC truck and was not injured, the press memo states, but troopers' investigation led to their suspicion of his impairment.
