Gareth Southgate to get new England contract to 2022 if England reach Euro 2020

Gareth Southgate will be England manager until at least the next World Cup – if his side qualify for Euro 2020, according to reports.

The Telegraph say the Football Association are planning a two-year extension to his current deal, which ends in two years’ time.

That will be triggered once qualification for the expanded Euros has been secured.

It was previously thought that Southgate’s future would depend on how they did at the 2020 showpiece, which is being held around Europe with the final in Engand.

The former Middlesbrough man, 47, knew his job would be under threat if he failed to get England out of the group stage in Russia.

But his side have impressed and face Sweden in tomorrow’s quarter-final after a shootout win over Colombia.
