There were chaos in the National Assembly on Thursday afternoon as Members of Parliament debated a motion to reprimand Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi for leaking sex video communication.
According to reports, there were scuffles in the house after a section of MPs allied to Gedi opposed the move by their counterparts to reprimand the woman representative.
On Wednesday, Gedi was found guilty by the Powers and Privileges Committee, led by speaker Justin Muturi of being in breach of the Leadership and Integrity Act and was set to face disciplinary action with the approval of the MPs.
“The committee recommends that the House reprimands Gedi for conducting herself in a manner that reflected adversely on the dignity and integrity of the National Assembly and its members,” read a conclusive statement from the committee

The woman MP was found guilty of allegedly leaking to the media a crucial letter from the director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti to the Clerk of the National Assembly Michael Sialai requesting four legislators named in the leaking of the sex tape to appear for grilling.
The DCI had zeroed in on four MPs whom they wanted to record statements at their headquarters in Kiambu.
Despite this, the four MPs who included Abdihakim Mohamed (Fafi), Aden Keynan (Eldas), Rehema Jaldesa (Isiolo) and Wangui Ngirici (Kirinyaga), are yet to record statements with the investigative body.
The MP had dismissed a sex tape that leaked and went viral in December 2018 as fake. The controversial video saw blogger Douglas Mbaya arrested and arraigned in Nairobi for allegedly circulating the offensive tape.
Among the disciplinary actions which the legislator is set to face includes a formal warning, reprimand, apologising to the House, withholding for a specific period of time of the member’s rights, removal for a specified period of time of the MP from any parliamentary position, fine in terms of the member’s monthly salary and allowances as well as suspension.
