Paris Saint Germain wrapped up the Ligue 1 title in style after Kylian Mbappe bagged a hat-trick in the 3-1 win over AS Monaco for their second consecutive league crown.
Following second-placed Lille’s draw against Toulouse on Sunday, PSG clinched the league with the win over Monaco after wobbling in recent weeks, losing 5-1 to Lille and 3-2 to Nantes.
Mbappe netted twice in the first half before completing his hat-trick in the second half against his former side.
– By completing his hat-trick, Mbappe is now the first Frenchman to score 30 goals in a single Ligue 1 campaign since Jean-Pierre Papin in 1989-90.
– At the age of 20, Mbappe is the youngest player to score 30 goals in a single Ligue 1 campaign.
– In the process of scoring his first goal, Mbappe clocked a speed of 38 km/hr. In 2017, a study revealed Gareth Bale was the fastest player in the world after registering a speed of 36.9 km/h
– Mbappe has now scored three hat-tricks in Ligue 1 this season. One more than his nearest rival and team-mate Edinson Cavani.
– Only two players in Europe’s top five leagues have scored 30+ league goals this season: Mbappe and Lionel Messi.
