Unai Emery’s first season at Arsenal has been a success story so far despite a few struggles along the way, especially away from home. The Gunners are currently 4th on the Premier League table with 63 points, the same amount of points they finished with last season and still have a quarterfinal Europa League clash with Napoli on the horizon.
There have been lots of improvements made by players this season, most notably Alex Iwobi, Hector Bellerin
Center Back
This has got to be the most obvious flaw of this Arsenal team. Sokratis and Koscielny are both very capable defenders but on the wrong side of 30 while Rob Holding has been out injured since December last year. German center Back is simply not good enough and has cost his team more points than he has won this season.
For Arsenal to have better defensive solidity, they must first find a world Class defender with excellent Organisational and leadership skills, Someone in the mold of Liverpool’s
Winger/Wide Forward
Apart from Alex Iwobi, Arsenal does not have a wide player who can beat defenders for pace and deliver a good cross in for their two strikers to finish. This leaves their attacks lacking balance while also asking their full-backs to do too much work on the flanks.
All top teams have a wide man who contributes both in goals and assists for the team, Chelsea have Willian and Hazard, Man City have Sane and Mahrez, while Liverpool can always count on Mane and Salah for the foals from wide positions, Arsenal on the other hand have none, Iwobi does not score that much! It is exactly why a goal scoring winger should be on top of Unai Emery’s transfer wish list.
Left Back
This may come as a surprise but Arsenal needs a good footballer on the left side of their defense. The right-back spot is covered by Hector Bellerin and
Full Backs are essential to the way Unai Emery wants to play and he needs them o be very good, both offensively and defensively. There have been a few rumors of Arsenal’s interest in World Class left backs including Bayern Munich’s David Alaba who is an Arsenal fan and Ajax left-back Nicolás Tagliafico has been named too. Both are exactly what Unai Emery needs!
