Conditions Solskjaer Must Meet to Be United Permanent Manager

That is the view of a football pundit Craig Burley.

Solskjaer has been in charge since late December, after Jose Mourinho was sacked, and has enjoyed unexpected successes during his short period in the role.

He has won 14 out of 19 games, and took United through to the Champions League quarter finals.

However in the past week he suffered back-to-back defeats against Arsenal and Wolves, seeing his side’s top four hopes take a knock, whilst being eliminated from the FA Cup.

Solskjaer had emerged as a favourite for the job in recent weeks, but Burley explained that he now has to hope that there are no other options available.

“If this club does its due diligence properly, it has to look at the fact that he has never taken a club through two transfer windows and restructured a team,” he said.

“Mauricio Pochettino has, he’s restructured Tottenham.

“They’ve been fighting for a league, which they haven’t won, they’re in the quarter finals of the Champions League and they play good football.

“The only way I can see Solskjaer getting it is if they go unbeaten to the end of the season, particularly in the league.

“Or the experienced candidates that are out there are unavailable or don’t want to go there.”

Burley did recognise that Solskjaer has done better than many expected him to do.

The former United striker has lifted the spirits of the fans, most of whom grew tired of Mourinho’s negative tactics, and he has been praised for his positive impact on dressing room morale.

“He’s done an amazing job,” Burley continued.

“He’s had a smile on his face, honest in his press conferences, and the players are responding to him.

“The fans and the club are really in a great place.”
