Why England coach Southgate is considering inclusion of Ward-Prowse in the national team

England has in the past failed to show their zeal and gusto and fight in the World cup just like Germany who have already dropped three names but this could make a good change in the near future minding that there are promising young players that are popping out fast.

Gareth Southgate is considering a call-up for Southampton’s in-form James Ward-Prowse.

England manager Southgate names his squad on Wednesday for the Euro 2020 qualifiers with Czech Republic on March 22 and Montenegro three days later, and has been making checks on Ward-Prowse.

His No2, Steve Holland, went to Southampton’s win over Tottenham on Saturday and will have been impressed as the midfielder scored the winner to go with his good recent run under new boss Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Southgate also knows Ward-Prowse, who has already won a senior cap, from his time managing the Under-21s and he has a reputation as a good character around the group.

Hasenhuttl backed his man following the Spurs game, explaining how the 24-year-old has improved his all-round game since he succeeded Mark Hughes in December.

“He didn’t have a good start with me,” said the Austrian. “What I saw in training was a very good footballer, but the work against the ball wasn’t what I wanted. That’s what I told him.

“Then I saw a guy who’s working on his deficits. Then you get a chance to play and if you grab it with both hands you get a chance to play again and again. I think he learned very quick what I want.

“Does he deserve an England call-up as a reward? For sure — and if they need a good free-kicker they should pick him.”

Southgate will make checks on fitness issues before finalising the squad, but Ward-Prowse is in his thoughts.

England could also call up Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, as Tottenham counterpart Kieran Trippier is struggling with injury.

Spurs’ Dele Alli is back to fitness in midfield, while Burnley keeper Tom Heaton will be recalled to the squad. West Ham midfielder Declan Rice is in after he switched allegiances having played three friendlies for the Republic of Ireland and Wolves defender Conor Coady remains on the radar.

Meanwhile, England are set to have a sell-out Wembley crowd for the Czech Republic game.

It is another sign of the feel-good factor around Southgate’s team, who will go on the road again for the Euros qualifier with Kosovo on September 10, having played in Leicester in the same international break last year.

Anfield is likely to be in contention but, having been to the North West, North East and Yorkshire recently, the FA may look further south, with Southampton a possibility.

Do you think Ward Prowse and Wan Bissaka play qualifies them to be in the England team?
