The Kisumu County governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has made a response to those criticizing his move of installing Kenya’s first Vice-President Jaramogi Oginga’s billboard telling the that he was going to do more by building a statue.
Announcing the move on Sunday during the Climax of Odinga’s Silver Anniversary, Kisumu county Governor Anyang Nyong’o said the move is aimed at keeping the future generation informed.
“I heard some youths complaining about the billboards; let me tell them that we will place a statue, so that as they walk in the Kisumu streets, they are aware of the leaders who sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy today,” he explained.
Governor Nyong’o said erecting the statue is a sure way of ensuring all generations are aware of his achievements.
“Jaramogi’s life provides us with an opportunity to transform the society for the better,” he added.
His sentiments came in the wake of an uproar over billboards his government placed ahead of the celebrations.
Some of them included this;
@governorkibwana have just inaugurated a milk processing plant done by USAID due to the confidence he inspires, he commissioned a hospital and fruit processing plant the other day. You are advertising an billboard of ancestors. Where did we go wrong people of the lake.
