Tranzoia County Assembly Speaker Joshua Warunga sustained bullet injuries as he rushed to quell a violent exchange between police officers and residents of Kolongolo village.
He was rushed to Mt Elgon Hospital in Kitale where he is currently nursing wounds.
Four other residents died and scores suffered injuries after the police officers shot at protesters.
The violent exchange left scores injured after a group of people confronted the officers who opened fire on them.
The angry mob was protesting the mishandling of a suspect who had been accused of domestic violence.
This comes at a time when the police have been put on the spot over.
