The MP has all eyes on him as some praised him for being a brilliant legislator. Alex Kosgey became a hot topic after he was hosted on the JKL show last light to discuss on the gender bill in relation to the state of the nation.
Kosgey has now reignited the contentious debate on the ever rising national debt even as the government continues to push for fresh foreign loans to plug a crippling budget deficit. Kosgey revealed he was in the process of drafting a Bill seeking to tame the government’s insatiable appetite for borrowing by capping the national debt.
Appearing on Citizen TV’s JKL show on Wednesday, November 21, the young legislator warned the rate at which Kenya’s debt was rising was dangerous and could plunge the country into a catastrophic financial crisis if it will not be stopped soon.
” I am working on a bill that sets to put a cap on national debt. It would also require Treasury to submit to Parliament the proposed repayment plan ,” said Emgwen MP who is the son of former minister Henry Kosgey.
The Bill, the MP explained would require the National Treasury to submit to Parliament its proposed loan repayment plan. The exchequer would also have to seek approval from Parliament before setting in motion any borrowing by the government, arguing this will bring more Transparency on the Treasury’s side.
a The legislator emphasized Kenya must take control of its national debt now to save the future. “We are actually mortgaging our children’s future. There’s a threat in the future, we have to take control of our borrowing,” he warned, and many appeared to agree with his views.

Alex Kosgey is not saying anything new regarding debt. @DavidNdii has been talking about this more persuasively and eloquently for a long time. Dr. Ndii even had the foresight to warn us about this debt fiasco *before* it happened.
