The perception that Kenyans have on the National Youth Service as an institution was tainted years ago after the first NYS Scandal where money was stolen.
Worse is the fact that the suspects went on the loose while some we cleared and upto date the case seems to be one of the forgotten.
Is the institution one of the faces of the big monster of corruption? Well NYS 2 proved that it was and even as the case is ongoing, Kenyan lost hope that the real culprits will be brought to book.
This has mainly been the focus and the side that we all see after President Kenyatta declared the war on graft people thought that it would only take a while before we see real change. Yet again the corruption dragon seems to take pretty long to be slayed.
In a way I feel that Kenyans have seen the negative and focused on it that they do not realize the number of people who have gone through that system and are proud that they did.
President Kenyatta today, described them as energetic, intelligent, young men and women, ready to work. To meet the demands of the big Four Agenda, saying that skilled men and women in the technical competencies are absolutely vital.
Thousands of these men and women today gathered during the pass out ceremony which was held in Gilgil. The ceremony was presided by President Kenyatta.
Men who are seemingly ready to take part in change took pride in their efforts as they carried posters in support of Kenya’s big four agenda.
From my personal opinion, out of these men and women we have Kenya’s future and that too, counts. Perhaps over the years we might see a changed institution which is ready to take the nation forward and this might be the beginning.

Beyond its record on the involvement on corruption what would you applaud NYS for?
