Its not a new case that during the National examinations not only are papers delivered but also bundles of joy. Makes you wonder the activities this young adults are engaged in in their final run of preparation for exams.

Men are on the receiving end as the government has put on notice men impregnating teenagers after more than 10 gave birth during their Kenya certificate of primary Education Examinations that started on Tuesday. While some of the candidates are reported to be taking the exams while pregnant, others gave birth in school or on the way.

One such case was reported in Kitui County on Thursday morning, when a girl aged 18 gave birth to a baby boy while walking to Makongo Primary School.

“We shall go beyond our teachers, we shall go in the villagers and ensure no one is left free,” said Belio Kipsang, the Education Principal Secretary, who was among hundreds of senior government officials including Cabinet Secretaries traversing the country to ensure the integrity of the examinations is safeguarded.

“We will arrest even if it is parents and guardians who might be behind these pregnancies that are against the children’s act,” he warned, when he spoke to journalists in Nyamachaki Primary School in Nyeri.

A candidate at Voroni Primary School in Kwale County gave birth to a boy after the national examinations began on Tuesday.

Kwale County Commissioner Karuku Ngumo said the girl started having labour pains earlier in the day so she was taken to Kwale Hospital.

A source at the hospital said she was stable and that she wrote the mathematics test from her hospital bed.

“We are happy that the girl delivered without any complications,” the source said.

This was the first such case to be reported in the county this year.

Similar cases were reported in Nyeri, Mombasa, Nakuru and Nyanza region since Tuesday when the examinations started.

In all the cases, the candidates were allowed to proceed with their examinations either in class, or in hospitals where papers were delivered under tight security.

In Kakamega County, a man was apprehended for allegedly posing as a candidate during music practicals at Mukuyu Girls’ Secondary School.

Meanwhile, the CS said all the candidates, numbering more than a million, will get chances to join secondary schools.

Results of this year’s national examinations will be out much earlier, compared even to last year when for the first time they were announced before Christmas, it has emerged. Sources at the Kenya National Examination Council (Knec) revealed that the agency had done several test runs on the modern technology to fast-track the marking process.

This means that KCPE may be released within one week after completion.
