A section of Kenyans have blasted Interior CS Fred Matiang’i over the declaration of 10th October as a Holiday.
Moi Day was removed from the list of national holidays following the promulgation of the Constitution in August 2010. A court ruling in November 2017 reinstated the day to be marked as a holiday on grounds its removal was in contravention of the Public Holidays Act.
“Going by the court’s decision, therefore, October 10 shall be a public holiday,” Matiang’i said in a statement to the media on Monday.
But Kenyans believe Matiangi’ is just pulling some cheap PR stunts since he has been on record refusing to respect other court orders.
One Kenyan in particular wondered why Matiang’i failed to respect an order that declared the deportation of controversial lawyer Miguna Miguna illegal.
CS @FredMatiangi is now respecting a court order on #MoiDay while there are 13 court orders declaring the deportation of @MigunaMiguna ILLEGAL. You can’t decide which Court orders to respect and disrespect. Cc @GKihalangwa @NPSOfficial_KE

Kenyans also don’t understand on what will be celebrated on the day, since the Moi era is one of the darkest times in the political history of the country that was characterized by wanton looting of public resources, political detentions, media blackouts and high profile assassinations.
TURNING BACK THE CLOCK
After 20 years, Kenyatta currency came back.
After 10 years, Moi Day came back.
Before too long, the old constitution will come back. #MoiDay #JoshuaNjengaOnPolitics— Joshua K. Njenga (@JKNjenga) October 8, 2018
Apparently #MoiDay is back,
CS Mr. Matiang’i & H.E Mr. Kenyatta,
I wish you could, just maybe, honor a different person who delivered more to the Kenyan people and economy, and would never ask for any such “tributes” in return.Anyway I don’t want to play these politics… pic.twitter.com/UpdPRWS5hS

So on this #MoiDay, what will you all be celebrating? We all know what Moi reminds us about. Let’s not pretend that one day of free time will make us forget. We still have Kenyatta on our currency yet Njoroge, CBK Governor said they will be out. Are we endorsing Dictatorship?

The despots can declare #KenyattaDay, #MoiDay, #OdingaDay, #RailaDay, #RutoDay – or whatever day they fancy. But Kenyans are not stupid and will not be distracted to such silly PR stunts. The tyrant @UKenyatta must go with all his HandChequers, looters and murderers!~
