President William Ruto has accused tax evaders of being behind the weekly political rallies staged by Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga.

According to the President, tax cheats have been financing the opposition to slow him down on his efforts to get big defaulters to pay what they owe the government. He maintained that every Kenyan was obligated to pay taxes regardless of their social or political status.

He said that there were leaders trying to whip up public emotions about the high cost of living and taxation so as to manoeuvre their way out of paying taxes.

His sentiments came in the wake of complaints from some Kenyans who have accused his administration of overtaxing them. There have also been protests about the taxman’s plans to target digital money transfer for taxation.

Nandi Senator Kiprotich Cherargei has claimed that retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has not been paying his taxes.

Cherargei shared that he (Mr Kenyatta) had been enjoying the tax waivers during his tenure as the head of state.

In a tweet, the President’s ardent supporter also noted that taxes must be paid regardless of being behind the rallies that the Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has been holding.

Ruto Goes For Moi, Kenyatta Over Tax

Yesterday, President William Ruto affirmed that no one was special and everyone in the country was going to pay taxes like the rest of Kenyans.

During his speech, the president revealed that some prominent politicians were the ones Sponsoring Azimio Rallies in a move to make him stop the quest for these bigwigs to pay taxes.

Well, it has now emerged that, the president is now asking former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s family and his ally from the Moi family to pay taxes like the rest of Kenyans.
